The data furnished herein were obtained from the papers on file in pension claim, S 41821, based upon the Revolutionary War service of John McQuown. The date and place of his birth are not stated, nor are the names of his parents given. John McQuown enlisted in Fauquier County, Virginia, Fenruary 25, 1776 and served as a private under Captain Shelton and in Captain John Blackwell's company in the third Virginia regiment, commanded by colonels Mercer, Weedon and Thomas Marshall; he was in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, and in winter quarters at Valley Forge, and was discharged February 25, 1778. John McQuown was allowed pension on this application executed April 18, 1818, at which time he was living in Licking County, Ohio. In 1820 he was still living in Licking County, and then stated that he was seventy years of age, and referred to his wife Mary, aged sixty-four years and to a grandchild, Solomon McQuown aged twelve years. The soldier, John McQuown, died in March 1828 leaving no widow: children did survive him. No names of children given, and there are no furthur data in this claim relative to family.
