Pa Feby 10th 1851 (Mr Elliott My Friend) I have Rc a letter from you a few days since wishing me to refresh your memory of the time we was in the army of the United States. My answer is we left Home on the 8th of September 1812 and according to Law we was entitled to pay and Rations two days before that time and in addition to the above the fowling is a copy of my Furlough and Discharge that I give to G W Allbright District Paymaster U.S. Army when I Rec. my remaining Back pay June 21, 1814. Copy In virtue of an order from Brigadier General Smythe Commanding the Army of the Center Camp dated Headquarters Cantonment Williamsvill December 8th 1812 Daniel McGugin a Lieutenant in the 1st Brigade Pennsylvania Volunteers you are permited on Furlough untill the 31st instant and after that Period you are Discharged from the Service of the United States Given under my hand at Buffalo this 9th day of December 1812. Signed A Tannehill Brigadier General According to the above I gave you the following By Virtue of the Furlow Given to me Daniel McGugin Lieut and _______anair of Capt David Buchanans Company of Infantry attached to the first Regiment Second Batalion Commanded by Col Jeremiah Snider I Also give Patrick Eliot a Sargen a Furlough for twenty Days and after that Period you are Discharged from the Service of the United States according to the Furlough give to me from Genl. Tannehill Commander of the 1st Brigade of Pennsylvania Volunteers---Given under my hand at Buffalo in the State of New York--this 9th day of December 1812 I Certify on Honor the above is Correct Daniel McGugin Lieut. Clerk CCpls State of Ohio County of Knox On this 24th day of May AD one thousand Eight hundred and fifty One personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid Patrick Elliott aged sixty four years a resident of Knox County in the State of Ohio who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Patrick Elliott who was a private in the company commanded by Captain David Buchanan in the first Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers Commanded by Colonel Jeremiah Snider in the with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June AD 1812, for the term of six months and __ twice in actual service in said war for the term of three months and about 20 days and was honorably discharged at Buffalo in the State of New York on or about the 29th day of December AD 1812. The evidence of which discharge as aforesaid has since been lost or destroyed. Patrick Elliott (signature) He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the "act granting bounty land to certain officers & soldiers who have been engaged in the Military Service of the United States" passed September 28th 1850, & further that he is not entitled to any other than the above act. Sworn and subscribed before me the day & year above written-And I hereby certify that I believe the said Patrick Elliott to be the identical man who served as aforesaid and that he is of the age above stated. Wm McWilliams J P State of Ohio County of Knox on this Second? day of April AD one thousand Eight hundred and fifty five personally appeared before me a Justices of the peace with and for the County and State aforesaid Patrick Elliott aged sixty nine years a resident of Knox County in the State of Ohio who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Patrick Elliott who was a Sargent in the company commanded by Capton David Bucannon in the Pennsylvania Regment of volunteers commanded by Jeremah Snider in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 28th day of June 1812 for the term os six months and continued in actual service in said war for fourteen days that he has heretofore made application for bounty land under the act of September 28th 1850 and reseved a land warrant the So he cannot now re___ for forty acres which he has since legally disposed of and cannot return He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act approved the 3d day of March 1855 He also declares that he has never applied for nor received under this or any other act of Congress any bounty land warrant except the one above mentioned Patrick Elliott (Signature) We John M Boggs and Levi Mercer residents of Knox County in the State of Ohio upon our oaths declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by Patrick Elliott in our presence and that we believe from the appearance and statements of applicant that he is the identical person he represents himself to be John M Boggs Levi Mercer The foregoing declaration and affadavit were Sworn to and Subscribed before me on the day and year above written and i certify that i know the affiants to be credible persons that the claimant is the person he represents himself to be and that i have no interest in this claim Wm McWilliams J P The State of Ohio Knox County I, Alexander C Elliott Clerk of Common pleas within and for said County do hereby certify that William McWilliams Esq before whom the foregoing affadavits were taken was at the times of taking the same an acting Justice of the peace within and for said County duly commissioned & qualified and duly authorized to perfrom such acts and that the signature thereto purporting to be his is genuine. Elliott Clerk K Cpls Bladensburg Knox County Ohio Wallace McWilliams agent for the within Elliott ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER OF PENSIONS IT IS HEREBY CERTIFIED that under the act of March 3rd 1855 entitled "An Act in addition to certain Acts granting Bounty Land to Certain Officers and Soldiers who have been engaged in THE MILITARY SERVICE of the United States Patrick Elliott Sergeant Captain Buchanan's Company Pennsylvania Militia War of 1812 is entitled to locate One Hundred and Twenty Acres at any land office of the United States ---------- and in conformity to the legal subdivisions of the public lands upon any of the public lands subject to sale......etc....8th day of November 1855 No 29.776 Commissioner ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Bladensburg April 25 1856 J Minet Enclose you will find the Declaration and papers of Catharine Elliott for bounty land with the warrant of Patrick Elliott her Decease husband any accommodation you may have __ ___ address me at Bladensburg Wallace McWilliams State of Ohio County of Knox on the 22d day of February AD one thousand Eight hundred and fifty Six personally appeared before me a Notary public witin and for the county and State aforesaid Catharine Elliott aged Sixty three years a resident of Knox County in the State of Ohio being duly sworn according to law declares that she is the widow of Patrick Elliott deceased who was a Sergeant in the company commanded by Captain Buchanan in the Pennsylvania Regiment of Militia the naim of the General she cannot recklect but would respectfully refer you to the declaration of her said husband in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812 that he said husband volunteered at Washington County in the State of Pennsylvania for the terms of his Services and the time of his discharge she cannot positively state but woud respectully refere you to his discharge and declaration on file in your office. She further States that she was Married to the said Patrick Elliott in Washington County in the State of Pennsylvania on the 1st day of February AD 1816 by one Smith a Justice of the peace and that her name before her Said marriage was Cathrine Harriman that her said husband died at Knox County in the State of Ohio on the 6th day of June AD 1855 and that she is now a widow She further declares that her said husband did application for bounty land under act of March 3d 1855 and thair was a warrant given for his benefit on the 8th day of November 1855 No 29.776 for one hundred and twenty acres which said warrant she returnes with her declaration to the department She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she may be entitled under the act approved November 1855 her Cathrine X Elliott mark We Nancy Porterfield and Jesse Boggs residents of Knox County in the State of Ohio upon our oaths declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by Cathrine Elliott in our presence and that we believe from the appearance and statements of the applicant that she is the identical person she represents herself to be we further declair that she is now a widow Nancy Porterfield Jesse Boggs State of Ohio County of Knox on this 22d day of February AD 1856 personally appeared before me a Notary public within and for the county and State aforesaid James Elliott resident of Licking County in the State of Ohio who being duly sworn according to law declaires that he has maid an examination of the family records of Patrick Elliott Deceased and finds thair upon record as follows, to wit Patrick Elliott and Cathrine Harriman was united in the Conjugal Relation on the 1st day of February in the year of our Lord 1816 he further declaires that he was present at the Death of the Said Patrick Elliott and that his death took place on the 6th day of June AD 1855 and that she is now a widow James Elliott Jr The foregoing declaration and affadavits were sworn to and subscribed before me on the day and year above written and I certify that i know the affiants to be credibel persons, that the claimant is the person she represents herself to be and that i have no interest in this claim James Elliott Notary Public The State of Ohio Knox County SS I, Alexander C Elliott Clerk of the Court of Common pleas within and for said county do hereby certify that James Elliott before whom the foregoing declaration and affadavits were Sworn to, was at the time thereo and acting Notary Public within and for said County duly commissioned and qualified and duly authorized to perform such acts, and that the signature thereto purporting to be his is genuine.
