Homer Baird Dicken, 67, retired oil distributor and former city plumbing inspector, died at 8:25 a. m. Friday in his home, 707 West Church Street. He had been in failing health eight years and seriously ill six weeks. Mr. Dicken engaged in the plumbing business here for a number of years with Karl Reinbold, under the firm name of Dicken & Reinbold, and later operated the Dicken Oil Co. from 1920 until 1944, when he retired. He was a former candidate for the Republican nomination for mayor several years ago and in 1945 was appointed city plumbing inspector, serving from Nov. 15, 1945, until Dec. 31, 1947, when he retired on account of ill health. In December, 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Dicken drove to Arizona where they spent several months for the benefit of his health. Born July 28, 1883, in Licking County, Mr. Dicken was the son of Asias W. and Sarah (Baird) Dicken. Surviving are his widow, the former Gertrude A. Priest; one brother, John W. Dicken of Granville and a sister, Mrs. Wallace D. Swisher of Hebron Road. Two brothers and a sister are deceased. Mr. Dicken was a member of the First Methodist Church, Newark Lodge, F&AM and the Eagles Lodge. The body will remain at Criss Brothers funeral home where services will be held in the chapel at 2:30 p. m. Sunday. Burial will be made in Rocky Fork Cemetery. The body will not be viewed until late Saturday afternoon.
