He married Rebecca Johnson, daughter of Sutton Johnson, ca. 1821, probably in Loudon County Virginia. Rebecca Johnson was born in 1778, near Fredricksburg Maryland. Jacob Lewis Smith and wife Rebecca Johnson Smith moved to Bellefontaine, Logan County Ohio in 1834. Their daughter, Elizabeth Ann Smith, born 17 September 1822 in Loudon County Virginia, was married to George Franklin Pash on 22 April, 1837, in Bellefontaine, Logan County Ohio. George Franklin Pash was born 02 November 1809, in Fairfax County Virginia, the son of John Pash and his 2nd wife Catherine Moreland. Jacob Lewis Smith, wife Rebecca Johnson Smith, and their daughter Elizabeth Ann Smith Pash and her husband George Franklin Pash were founding members of the First Baptist Church, 200 E. Columbus Street, Bellefontaine Ohio. The Pash names appear in the stained glass windows in the front vestibule of the church. Jacob Lewis Smith died in Bellefontaine, Logan County Ohio on 5 February 1855. Rebecca Johnson Smith died in Bellefontaine, Logan County Ohio on 22 October 1864.
