From the “Bellefontaine Republican”, Bellefontaine, Ohio
14 Aug 1863    Of camp diarrhea at the residence of Mr. John Caskey's of
Bellefontaine on the morning of August 5th, Mr. Zachus Cowan of Hampden, 
Maine. A member of Co. A, 22d Maine Volunteers. He was passing through 
town on his way home, ill, and left at Bellefontaine in the care of its 
patriotic citizens.
