Born in North Carolina in 1779, removed to New Orleans in his youth; removed in 1812 to Tennessee and joined the service during the War of 1812; was a pensioner; in 1814, married Hannah Dearing and settled in Ross Co., Ohio; in 1817, joined the M.E. Church; in 1824 became a licensed minister; in 1829 settled on his farm in Logan Co.; his wife died in 1853 leaving 18 children; married his present wife in 1855; she survived him.
