From the “Bellefontaine Republican”, Bellefontaine, Ohio
22 Aug 1863    Commander Abner Read, U.S. Navy, on the 7th inst. on the 
U.S. Steam Sloop "Louisiana."  Wounded at the Batteries above Donaldsville 
on the Mississippi.  Died a few hours afterwards. Brother of B.C.D. Read 
of the firm of Read and Carl, booksellers and stationers of Bellefontaine.
