INDEPENDENT TREASURY, ELYRIA, OHIO, FEB 9, 1842
ANOTHER PATRIOT GONE
DIED at Carlisle of this county on Thursday, February 3d, 1842, Zachariah 
Beers in the 84th year of his age.

The deceased was born at Woodbury, Pilchfield county, Connecticut June 3d, 
1758.  He served his country faithfully during the gloomy times of the 
Revolution and lived to see his country ?take her stand among the nations of 
the Earth, her people happy, prosperous, and free.

He was a man, a patriot, and a christian, one against whom the tongue of 
slander could not be raised.  In private life he was an ornament and a pride 
to the society in which he lived.  Devoted to the i-crest of his country, in 
his youth ? was his highest glory.

Nature had endowed him with a strong and noble mind, and had he turned his 
attention to public life he would have been an ornament to his age.  But 
having spent his youth in the service of his country at the close of the 
Revolution to taste most pleasantly the sweets of liberty he chose the 
retirement of private life and spent the remainder of his days attending to 
the wants of a numerous family, content with the honor of being a citizen of 
that Republic which he had helped to establish.  But he has gone to meet his 
reward and receive the approbation of ? done good & faithful servent."  He has 
left a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his loss.  But let 
not his loss be mourned by his friends alone, but a country mourn that one 
more of that remnant and venerated Bond has fallen.
