Terrence Horan, a pioneer resident of the East Side, died at his home at Clark street and Navarre avenue at 4 o'clock this morning. While in failing health for some time, his last illness was only of ten days' duration. He was in his eight-sixth year. Mr. Horan came to America in 1849 and in 1854 located in Toledo on the East Side. At that time this part of the city was thinly settled, and he has witnessed the marvelous growth of the East Side from a wilderness to a city of 30,000 people. Mr. Horan leaves four grown children: Patrick Horan, Paul Horan, and Mrs. Mary McGinn, of the East Side, and Mrs. John Cody, of St. Louis. He has been a member of the Good Shepherd parish since it was organized, and the funeral will be held from that church, probably Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. Father O'Brien. Additional Comments: Terrence Horan married Margaret O'Brien (1830-1902) in an unknown place in Ireland. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1849 had nine children: James (1850-1886), Mary (1852-1947), Michael (1853?-1902), Patrick (1855-1908), Annie (1859-1869), Thomas (1862-1881), John (1865-1892), Catherine (1867-1940), and Paul (1869-1916). They later separated but did not divorce. Much of the family is buried together in Calvary Cemetery in Toledo.
