King, 95, a lifelong East Toledo resident who was elected to the former ward City Council in the 1930s and the nine-man council of the 1950s, died today in Byrnebrook Nursing Home, where he had been admitted for therapy two days ago. Mr. King, 823 Oak St., was a 1903 graduate of the former Central High School. Shortly thereafter, he went to work for the former Hocking Valley Railroad. Remaining with the railroad after it merged with the former Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad, Mr. King was a city freight agent for the C&O for most of his career. He retired in 1953 after more than 45 years of service. In 1933, Mr. King, a Democrat, was elected to a four-year term on the city's last ward council. Four years later, he was elected to a two-year term on the new 9-man council, but dropped out of politics in 1940. However, he made a political comeback in 1955, when he was selected by the Democratic party to replace a coucilman who had resigned to accept another appointment. Mr. King was then elected to his third full term that fall, retiring from council for a second time. Mr. King was a past president of the East Toledo Democratic Club, and a former member of the Lucas County Democratic Central Committee. He also was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Church and a past president of its Holy Name Society; the Eagles and Elks lodges; St. Vincent De Paul Society, and the Toledo Transportation Club, of which he was a past president. Surviving are his wife, Jessie; son, Thomas R., and daughters, Mrs. Margaret A. Finnegan, Mrs. Mary Ellen Stenehjem, Mrs. Kathryn Wening, and Mrs. Shirley Geringer. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church. The body will be in the Eggleston-Meinert-Welsh Mortuary, Coy Road, after 7 p.m. Saturday, with recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Additional Comments: Tom was born on 28 June 1886 in Toledo. He was the son of John Bryan King and Mary Horan. His elder siblings were John, Terence, Elizabeth, and Margaret. Tom married Jessie Anna Sorenson on 16 June 1915 in Toledo.
