Vestal, Jr. fell one day last week and injured his right ankle badly by rupturing one of the ligaments. - Thomas, an idiotic son of William James, janitor of the Episcopal Church in this place, died of measles at the Columbus Imbecile Asylum last Wednesday afternoon, aged 20 years. The remains were interred at Columbus. - Bat. Gorey, blacksmith, and W.H. Staley, wood worker will start next Monday for Johnstown, Licking county where they have bought a shop for the manufacture and repair of buggies, carriages, etc. County Correspondence West Jefferson: - Our genial agent, Will. P. Redmond, wears a yard-wide smile over the arrival of a bran new girl baby, which put in an appearance last Thursday. - Timothy O'Donnell and Miss Ella Coleman were united in holy wedlock by Father Miller Tuesday. - L.W. Shepherd will teach the New Holland school next year. - The school taught by Wm. J. Dick, No. 7, this township, closed last Friday a successsful term of nine months. The following three highest grades were given in manuscript spelling: Class A: Cora Bidwell, Myrta Bidwell, Pern J. Bidwell. Class B: Elbert Reece, Barbara Paulus, Malinda Stanton. Class C: Katie Paulus, Geo. Bidwell, Rose Paulus. Lilly Chapel: - Charles A. Wilson will close his school in the Cartmill district, this township, the 17th inst. He will teach in Pleasant township the coming fall and winter. - Rev. J. P. Pillsbury and wife, J.H. Gardner, wife and daughter, Lottie were the guests of Mrs. B.W. Noland last week. - Miss Allie Norris was lately called to Virginia by the serious illness of her grandmother. Miss Cora Bailey will finish her (Miss Norris') term of school in the Bell district, Oak Run Township. - Our old friend, Charley Horn, of Columbus was calling on relatives and friends here last week. - Alf. Cartmill raised the frame of his barn last Thursday. When completed, this will be the largest barn in the township. - Mrs. C.C. Taylor and Hon. T. J. Pringle of Springfield were the guests of the latter's father, W.D. Pringle, of Big Plain, and C.W. Pringle of this place last week. - Miss Mary Noland of Disco, Ill, is the guest of her cousin, Miss Lottie Noland, this week. - G.W. Deyo and family of Harrisburg were the guests of Trustee H.C. Cartmill last week. - Miss Jennie O'Brien was the guest of her sister, Mrs. J.D. Bate, in West Jefferson, several days last week. Newport: - Miss Ida Commens of Kenton, O., was visiting friends in this vicinity Saturday and Sunday. - Simon Tingley and family of the West End was visiting Mrs. Tingley's parents here Saturday and Sunday. - A. Harsh has left our quiet village for the time being, dividing his time with London and Grove City, but will devote his time to teaching next September. - The many friends of David Schurr will regret to hear that he had to quit his school on account of his health. - Mrs. James Evans is at present lying very low with malaria fever. - Wm. Trumper and wife of White Oak were here over Sunday, the guests of Jas. Cleeland. - Miss Anna Dineen and David Schurr closed their schools last Friday with a grand picnic. - Mr. and Mrs. Smith of Woodstock were visiting Mrs. Ida Thornburg last week. Danville: - Mrs. Jeannie Bennett was called here several days ago by the critical condition of her mother, Mrs. Burress. - Mrs. Will. Alkire is on the sick list. - Mrs. Mathews of Ross county is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Jo Harper. - Mrs. Buzick died last Thursday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Lucius Ott, of dropsy. - A Mr. Finkbone of New Holland was here one day last week looking at the Williamson property with the intention of buying it and starting a general store. - Redman Cantwell and family will move to the Howsman farm near Bloomingburg this week. - Miss Josie Hayman is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Ballenger, in London. Upper Glade: - F.A. Taylor closed his school Tuesday with a picnic. - Mrs. Mary Bennett is visiting her niece, Mrs. R. Kimball, at Vienna. - Jonathan Booth and wife are visiting their daughter, Mrs. W. Brelsford, at Kenton. - Miss Lottie Carter of Union township is the guest of Miss Mary Wright.
