        WILLIAM J. MORGAN.  In his native City of Youngstown, Mahoning
County, which is one of the specially important industrial centers of Ohio,
Mr. Morgan is successfully established in the gasoline and oil business, as
pertaining specially to the automobile line, and his well equipped
headquarters at 325 West Wood Street are know for efficiency and service.
        Mr. Morgan was born at Youngstown in the year 1886, and is a son of
the late Benjamin G. and Mary Catherine (Morgan) Morgan, the former of whom
was born in Wales and the latter in Mahoning County, Ohio, where their
marriage was solemnized. Benjamin G. Morgan was a skilled artisan at the
carpenter's trade, and became a successful contractor and builder in the
City of Youngstown, his death having here occurred in 1906 and his widow
having passed away in 1918.
        In the public schools of Youngstown, William J. Morgan continued
his studies until he was sixteen years of age, and thereafter he served a
thorough apprenticeship to the trade of machinist, in which he became a
skilled workman. After following his trade five years he purchased a local
machine shop, and two years later he became associated with H. B. Smith in
here conducting a general automobile repair business, this alliance having
continued three years, and Mr. Morgan having thereafter developed in an
individual way a substantial business not only in this line but also in the
handling of automobile tires. His enterprise finally became changed to the
handling of gasoline and oil.
        Mr. Morgan was one of Youngstown's native sons who represented Ohio
as a gallant young soldier in overseas service in the World war. He entered
service in July, 1918, and was assigned to field artillery. In October of
that year he arrived with his command in France, but as the armistice was
signed in the following month he had no opportunity for prolonged service
on the battle front. He remained abroad until April, 1919, when he returned
to his native land and duly received his honorable discharge.
        Mr. Morgan is independent in politics, is a member of Plymouth
Congregational Church in Youngstown, has received the thirty-second degree
of the Masonic Scottish Rite, and is a Shriner of Al Koran Temple at
Cleveland, Ohio. He is affiliated also with Youngstown Lodge No. 55,
Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
