MRS. LAURA BEARDSLEY DEAD
Mrs. Laura Beardsley died Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the residence of her brother, 
P.T. Jones, where she had made her home during the past four years. Scarcely 
had she established her home with the Jones family ere she was stricken with 
paralysis to a degree such as to require professional nursing during all of 
her remaining days. Mrs. Beardsley, the daughter of James and Huldah Tanner 
Jones, was born March 14, 1843, in Ellsworth township near the border of 
Canfield township; where she lived until 1852 when, with the family of which 
she was a member, she moved to Canfield township, one mile west of the 
village. After pursuing a course of two or three years at the Mahoning 
Academy, she engaged in the profession of dressmaking very successfully in and 
around Canfield, moving later to Leetonia, and again to Youngstown, where she 
continued her occupation until October 17, 1893, when she became the wife of 
Fred W. Beardsley, a native of Canfield, who had been a justice of the peace 
and later a clerk of courts for Mahoning county, but was now practically 
retired to enjoy the returns of his labors as a successful farmer, horse 
breeder, and a manager in part of a thriving canning industry at Gibson City, 
Ill. Shortly after the death of Mr. Beardsley in the spring of 1903, she 
removed from the latter place to Canfield and built for herself a comfortable 
home on North Broad street that she might be near to her friends in the 
evening of life. Here she resided until the fall of 1917 when the frailties of 
age forced her to dispose of her home and seek a more quiet retreat among her 
friends. In early life Mrs. Beardsley was a member of the Congregational 
church of this place and at Youngstown, but after marriage she united with the 
Methodist church. Naturally kind and generous, she was surrounded with a wide 
circle of friends wherever she lived. Besides her brother, P.T. Jones, she is 
survived by nieces and nephew as follows: Mrs. J.L. Crowell, Lisbon; L.L. 
Jones, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Mrs. Vance Blim, Miss Amy Jones and James Jones, 
Canfield. Funeral will be held from the M.E. Church, Friday at 2 p.m. Burial 
in the village cemetery.

Under the will of Mrs. Laura Beardsley, who died in Canfield Nov. 30, her 
brother, P.T. Jones is to receive 30 acres of land in Canfield, two nieces, 
Elsie Blim and Laura Crowell are bequeathed a house and lot in Canfield and 
two nephews, L.L. Jones and J.B. Jones, are bequeathed $200 each and another 
niece, is to receive $300. Mrs. Jennie Tanner is given $200 and the residue is 
to be divided between P.T. Jones, Elsie Blim and Laura Crowell. The will was 
signed May 4, 1916, and names J.B. Jones as executor.
