Following the custom of more than a quarter of a century, he and his wife left for the South a few weeks ago. Born in Canfield township, April 8, 1886, he was a son of John E. and Harriet Sanzenbacher Neff, and the youngest of a family of six children. After graduating from the Commercial Department of the old N.E.O. Normal College in Canfield in 1903, he began a business career in various fields. He was a partner in Canfield’s largest general store for several years, and also operated a similar store for himself at a later date. He conducted an insurance and surety bond business, and was also an electrical and plumbing contractor, establishing the Neff Co., now carried on by his sons, Charles J. and Edward L. on the Canfield – Boardman Road. He also farmed. Mr. Neff also engaged in the real estate business, developing his 73-acre farm, now the site of many homes on Fairview Ave. and Hood Drive. He was also associated with another son, Robert H. in platting the former Irvin Callahan farm in the north-east section of the village. A fourth son, Richard, of Berlin township, is a building contractor. Mr. Neff was a life member of the Canfield Methodist church, and served on the official board and in other capacities. He was a member of Canfield Lodge No. 155, I.O.O.F., and the Canfield Community Club. Mr. Neff also served several terms as township clerk and treasurer. Besides his four sons, he leaves his wife, the former Laura Noll, whom he married July 29, 1907; two brothers, Martin J. of Canfield and Cyrus H. of Homestead, Fla.; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grand children. Funeral services, with Dr. Walter C. Eyster in charge, were held Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church, and interment made in the Canfield cemetery.
