He had been in poor health for some time and his death was not unexpected. He was born in Canfield township Jan. 2, 1829, a son of Philo and Lois Beardsley, early settlers of this section. All his long and useful life he followed farming and stock raising. For years he was extensively engaged in the breeding of Shetland ponies, shipping them to all parts of the country. Later he went into the Jersey cattle business having associated with him his son, Hiram, and together they made Dean Hill Dairy Farm famous the country over, animals bred by them being in great demand at fancy prices. He was a rugged and determined man and until recent years insisted on taking active part in work on the extensive farm. In 1845 he was married to Mary P. Dean, who passed away in 1905. Two daughters preceded him in death. He leaves two sons, Ensign N. Beardsley of Green township and Hiram J. Beardsley of Canfield. Mr. Beardsley early in life united with the Christian church, long serving as an officer and taking great interest in its affairs. Funeral services held Wednesday afternoon from his late residence were conducted by Rev. M. J. Grable of Salem, a large concourse of relatives and friends being in attendance. Interment was made in Dean Hill cemetery, only a few rods distant from the Beardsley home.
