WILSON CALLED By Death Sunday Morning After Spending Long Life in This His Native County.” Robert M. Wilson, a pioneer resident of this county, died early Sunday morning at his home1 ¼ miles west of Canfield, after a long illness with nephritis, aged 77 years. Deceased was born in Canfield and here most of his long life was spent. He was a son of John and Jane Wilson, who came from the north of Ireland to America in 1828. During the California gold excitement in 1849 Mr. Wilson, with a number of other Mahoning county men, went to the coast in search of fortune, the trip being a most hazardous one and occupying many weeks. Mr., Wilson was a farmer and stock raiser and for quite a number of years conducted a meat market in Canfield. He was a life-long democrat and being a great reader was a well-informed man. He possessed a rugged constitution and iron will. Always congenial he made friends of all with whom he came in contact. He was long a member of the Presbyterian Church. In 1859 Mr. Wilson was married to Miss Catherine E. Maurer. Two years ago they celebrated their Golden wedding. Besides his widow he leaves four children, W.C. Wilson and Mrs. C.H. Hine of Canfield, C.J. Wilson of Greenford and Mrs. Gilbert Kimmel of Rosemont, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Martin of Corvallis, Oregon. Funeral services held Tuesday morning from the family residence were conducted by Rev. R.E. Pugh, pastor of the Presbyterian church. There was a large attendance of sorrowing relatives and friends. Interment was made in Dean Hill cemetery. Additional Comments: Note: A photo accompanied this obit.
