While he had been quite feeble for some time it was not until last Saturday that he took to his bed. His condition grew rapidly worse until the end came. Mr. Sanzenbacher was born in the kingdom of Wurtemberg, Germany, May 5, 1827, consequently was nearly 92 years of age. In 1833 he emigrated to the united States with his parents, spending his boyhood near Unity, Columbiana county, and in Lawrence county, Pa. In 1844 he was bound out to learn the trade of tanning and currying. Early in 1850 he purchased a small tannery in Canfield, commencing business with a capital of $500. Later he had as partners in business Fred Krehl of Girard and Pierpont Edwards. For years he was at the head of the J. Sanzenbacher & Co. tannery, one of the largest manufacturers of leather in the state. He was a keen business man and very successful. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Sarah Oswald whom he married Dec. 4, 1850. Six children were born to them, four of whom are living – Mrs. J.E. Neff, Mrs. I. Callahan, Charles and Luther Sanzenbacher, all of Canfield. His second wife died only a few months ago. Funeral services will be held from family home Friday afternoon at 2:30, fast time, in charge of Rev. R.S. Smith, pastor of the M.E. Church, of which the deceased was a member.
