Neff ffen@zoominternet.net June 2, 2006, 9:20 am Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 5 May 1933 OVERLY, Jessie [Mrs. Arch Overly] Ca 1985 to 28 Apr 1933 38y Mrs. Jessie Overly, 38 DIED SUDDENLY AT PRICETOWN WHILE TAKING PART IN A PLAY “You’ve been complaining and grunting for 50 years and you aren’t dead yet.” These were the words addressed by a co-member of the cast, of a group of Pricetown women taking part in a play at the Methodist church in that hamlet Friday evening, to Mrs. Jessie Overly, 38, who was impersonating Mrs. Sarah Glidden the invalid in the piece, “ The Heirs Get the Air.” The line was Mrs. Overly’s cue to settle back into her chair. She did so. A moment later one of the company discovered, as she thought, that Mrs. Overly had fainted. She was in fact unconscious and Dr. Mealy, summoned from Newton Falls in the ensuing excitement, said she had died instantly of a heart attack. The picturesque little church in Pricetown cemetery yard was crowded, the occasion being the final program of the school year of the local P.T.A. One of Mrs. Overly’s two children, Virgil, had taken part in the playlet, “The Old Timer’s Bureau” which preceded the play in which his mother and 11 other Pricetown ladies constituted the cast. Mrs. Overly’s daughter, Dorothy, was attending the Junior-Senior prom in Leavittsburg school where she is a junior. The dramatic passing of Mrs. Overly created a sensation in Pricetown and was a profound shock to her husband, Arch Overly, and to their children. Mrs. Overly’s funeral was held Monday afternoon at the church in which edifice she breathed her last. Interment was in the Wayland cemetery.
