Stratford received word Thursday morning that their son, Pfc. Seward D. Stratford, died Nov. 16 as the result of wounds received in action on Mapia Island. His parents had received his last letter Nov. 14. He was inducted into the army in May, 1941, and trained at camps in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Virginia, going over seas in March of this year. Pfc. Stratford was born Nov. 29, 1913, in Canfield township, where he spent his entire life until going to the army. He was a graduate of Canfield high school. Surviving besides his parents are a sister, Mrs. Healea Work of Washington, D.C., and two brothers, Phil of East Palestine and Pvt. Elton Stratford, based at Indiantown Gap, Pa.
