JANE DODDS TRIMBLE, An Early Settler of Canfield and the Oldest Person in Mahoning County – Lived Nearly a Century. Mrs. Jane Dodds Trimble died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Plympton Gee, on Wadsworth street, last Sunday morning at 6 o’clock. Mrs. Trimble was no doubt the oldest person in Mahoning county. She was born in County Down, Ireland, August 3, 1801, and was therefore within five days of being one hundred years of age. She was married to William Trimble in Ireland, and the result of the union was six children, two of whom are living – Mrs. Elizabeth Knight of Ellsworth and Mrs. Plympton Gee of this place. The family came to America in 1849, locating in Canfield, but soon removed to a farm in Dublin, two miles southwest of the village. Mr. Trimble died in 1863, since which time Mrs. Trimble had made her home with her daughter, who for several years has resided in Canfield. Until within the past six months Mrs. Trimble was quite active, being able to assist in the household duties. Her mind was clear and she was a most interesting conversationalist. She was never so happy as when entertaining friends and neighbors. Plans had been partially made to celebrate the centennial of her birth, an occasion which she had for some time looked forward to with no little pleasure. Mrs. Trimble was a member of the Presbyterian church of which she was a regular attendant until recent years. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Wm. Dickson, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The burial was in the village cemetery. Burial: Section B Row 4 Canfield Village Cemetery, Canfield, Mahoning Co.
