(Surnames: Miller, Harris, Sherman, Ball, Graham, Olds, Cumberworth, Wait/Waite) Compiled by Michael Ralph Mader North Royalton, Cuyahoga County, Ohio September, 2008 ********************************************************************************** Harvey Thomas Miller Born May 17, 1845 in Hinckley, Ohio. On December 24, 1860, he married Francis E. I. Floyd in Medina, Ohio. Harvey enlisted December 21, 1863 in Cleveland, Ohio with the 5th. Company, Independant Ohio Volunteer Sharpshooters, while working as a sailmaker on the Cleveland waterfront. About a year and a half later he was discharged at war's end on July 19, 1865. He passed away in Brunswick, Ohio on April 6, 1920, working as a farmer and buried at Bennetts Corners Cemetery. Henry Harris Born August 5, 1845 in Danville, Ohio and enlisted with the 103rd. Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company I. in August of 1862 in Paulding County, Ohio. He was discharged at war's end, June 12, 1865. He lived and worked in Paulding County, marrying Jane Cottsell in 1872. In 1905, Henry and Jane moved to Hinckley, Ohio becomming farmers. Henry died April 27, 1926 in Hinckley and buried at Bennetts Corners Cemetery. Hiram Sherman Born 1841 in Brunswick, Ohio, son of Cornelius and Samantha Hier Sherman. He moved to Spencer, Michigan as a young man and on December, 26, 1861, enlisted in the 13th. Michigan Volunteer Infantry, Company C. Six months later, on June 16, 1862, Hiram died of disease in a hospital in Tuscumbia, Alabama. His body was sent back to Bennetts Corners Cemetery for burial. James W. Ball Born 1818 in Vermont and journeyed to Medina County where he was an entrepreneur, buying buildings and earning his living collecting rent from business and people. In 1859, 41 year old James married 29 year old Lucinda Snow and they lived in Medina City. After the war began, James worked for the Federal government in some capacity for the war effort. In February 13, 1864, James died in Nashville, Tennessee. Widow Ball, brought his body back to Medina County to bury him in the Snow family plot at Bennetts Corners Cemetery. On his headstone, carved with a waving American flag, the inscription reads, James W. Ball, died in Nashville, Tennessee, February 13, 1864, in government employ, age 46 years, 3 days. Hiram W. Graham Born May 30, 1831 in Summit County, Ohio, Hiram married Mariette Hier in 1853 and supported his family by farming. On April 6, 1865, he enlisted for one year's service with the 2nd. Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, Company H based in Summit County, Ohio and was discharged at war's end, September 11, 1865. In 1890, the family moved to Strongsville, Ohio to continue farming. Hiram passed away April 24, 1914 and was buried at Bennetts Corners Cemetery. Mortimore Olds Born February 22, 1825 in New York and traveled to North Royalton, Ohio where he married Amelia Marcelus in 1850. They moved to Hinckley, Ohio to farm. On December 7, 1863, Mortimore, at 38 years of age, enlisted in the 1st. Ohio Light Artillery, Company E and was discharged at war's end on July 16, 1865. Mortimore continued to farm until his death on February 25, 1910. He was buried at Bennetts Corners Cemetery. William Anthony Cumberworth Born May 9, 1842 in North Royalton, Ohio, he enlisted with the 1st. Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery, Battery D on August 15, 1862 and was discharged at war's end on June 18, 1865. He married Mary Francis Scrivens on September 27, 1866 and raised his family working as a farmer. William died in Remsens Corners, Medina County on July 3, 1913 and was buried at Bennetts Corners Cemetery. Henry M. Wait/Waite Born in 1823, he was a farmer in Brunswick, Ohio. On September 1861, he enlisted in the 1st. Ohio Volunteer Light Artillary, Battery A until honorably discharged May 20, 1862. He married Hellen Blakeslee in 1865 and supported his family as a farmer. Henry passed away in 1888 and was buried at Bennetts Corners Cemetery.
