Working as a farmer, he married Edna Lucile Spafford in 1912 and had two children, son Lyle, who passed away in infantcy and daughter Twila. The marriage ended in divorce several years later and by the 1917 World War I draft, Leon was paying child support. He entered the National Army on November 26, 1917. Leon was trained with the 322nd. Machine Gun Battalion, Company C and once overseas, fought with the 15th. Machine Gun Battalion, Company C at the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne battles in France. After the war's end, Leon was honorably discharged on July 29, 1919 as Private First Class. Leon never remaried and spent a quiet, hard working life as a farmer in Hinckley and Strongsville. He passed away March 3, 1971 in a North Royalton, Ohio extended care facility and was buried at Bennetts Corners Cemetery next to his son Lyle. Phillip John Gloeckler Born June 30, 1895 in Cleveland to German born parents, Phillip Sr. and Fredricka (Hebel) Gloeckler, Phillip lived on Cleveland's west side, then Fairview Park with his parents until he was drafted September 19, 1917 in the National Army. He trained with the 331st. Infantry Regiment, Company A and once overseas, fought with the 11th. Infantry Regiment, Company A, in the battles of St. Michel and Meuse-Argonne in France. Private first class Gloeckler was severly wounded in action on October 16, 1918 but slowly recovered except for a 7% Certificate of Disability from the Army. He was honorably discharged November 25, 1919. Working as a salesman, Phillip married Mary Kathleen Hassler in 1923, living in Fairview Park, Ohio until 1940 when they bought the 13 acre, Mader farm in North Royalton near Bennetts Corners. Phillip and "Kathleen" never had children and lived a quiet life at Bennetts Corners. Phillip passed away March 23, 1964 in Parma, Ohio and was buried at Bennetts Corners Cemetery next to his wife.. Howard Kolb Chervenka Born July 13, 1889 in Cleveland, Ohio, Howard was the son of Charles and Margaret (Kolb) Chervenka. He was a factory worker when he was drafted on June 2, 1917 in South Euclid, Ohio and trained with the Ohio National Guard. His unit here and overseas was the 135th. Field Artillery, Battery A. Howard obtained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged April 10, 1919. In 1925, he married Blanche Dutton in Cleveland and had one child, son Robert. Moving to Hinckley, Howard commuted to Cleveland for his factory job and the family lived a quiet country life near Bennetts Corners. He passed away September 3, 1958 and was buried at Bennetts Corners Cemetery next to his wife.. Earl Lewis Cumberworth Born December 17, 1881 in Brunswick, Medina County, Ohio, Earl was the son of William Anthony and Mary Francis(Scrivens) Cumberworth. He, as his father, became a farmer until December 8, 1913, bored with mundane farm work, enlisted in the Regulay Army and was a member of the Ft. Caswell, North Carolina Coast Artillery Corps until July 11, 1917 when he entered the Army Reserves, 14th. Field Artillery. The coastal defence lasted until after World War One when Earl was honorably discharged June 4, 1920. After his military service, Earl moved to Akron, Ohio where he worked for B.F. Goodrich Company. He never married and when he passed away February 27, 1947, Earl was buried by his parents at Bennetts Corners Cemetery.
