Boarder finds Wife and Son In Flames and Is Stabbed While Trying to Save them — Father Hangs Self in Barn. 'Medina, O,, April 15 (INS)— Four bodies— 'those of a father, a mother, a son and a boarder at their home — 'today lie at the morgue at Wooster, near here, offering much evidence of a tragedy in which the insane jealousy of the father, James McGregor, 60 drove him to slay his wife, children and a friend and then hung himself in his barn. A 91-year,-old woman, Mrs. Amelia Myers, was in Cleveland today, where she was taken after firemen found her in her locked room in the McGregor home. While the mother, Alice, 41, and the son, Harold Ridley, 20, huddled together after a domestic quarrel, McGregor suddenly appeared and drenched them with kerosene. He followed this , by tossing lighted matches at them. Clinton McAfee 59, a boarder in the home in West Salem, the scene of the tragedy, hearing the screams of the burning pair, came down .. from his room and picked up the son to carry him out to a water pump in an attempt to quench the flames. As McAfee threw water at the youth, McGregor ran out and stabbed the boarder with a butcher knife, piercing his heart. McAfee died instantly. Mother and son were rushed to a hospital where they died a short time later. Firemen, responding to an alarm by neighbors, rescued the aged woman, while they were seeking more ladders in the barn they came upon tho limp body of McGregor swinging from a rafter. The couple had, quarreled- many times, neighbors verified;' Once, divorce proceedings had been started but were later dropped. McGregor was believed to have been uncontrollably jealous of his wife. Additional Comments: The boarder here was William C. McAfee, a night patrolman at Wadsworth, Ohio. William C. was the son of Robert James McAfee and Sarah Shelly of Wadsworth. William's middle name is either Clinton or Clayton.
