WEST SALEM TRAGEDY
VICTIM BURIED HERE

The body of Clinton McAfee, age 59, one of the victims of a quadruple tragedy 
at West Salem
was brought to Wadsworth, Wednesday evening for burial.
Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the 
Bicksler Funeral Home with Mowry's of
Wooster in charge, burial was made in Woodlawn Cemetery. McAfee was substitute 
night patrolman here last year.
McAfee was stabbed to death with a butcher knife by James McGregor, 60, West 
Salem farmer, who also killed his wife, Alice, 41, and stepson, Harold Ridley, 
20, and himself, early Tuesday. A temporary fit of insanity has been given as 
the cause of the act.
McGregor after drenching his wife and stepson with kerosene
set fire to them. The mother and son died Tuesday noon at Lodi Hospital. 
McAfee, who boarded at the McGregor home, came to the aid of the victims and 
was stabbed to death. McGregor then hung himself in a nearby barn.
Mrs. Amelia Myers, 91, was rescued from the burning McGregor house by firemen.
McAfee is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fred Myers of Western Star and Miss 
Ada McAfee of Wadsworth.

William Clayton McAfee (son of Robert McAfee & Sara Shelly of Wadsworth, 
Medina Co, Ohio).
William is the grandson of Mathew McAfee & Margaret McElhinney of East Union 
Twp, Wayne Co, Ohio.
Robert McAfee is the brother of my great grandfather, Mathew Porter McAfee, of 
Hannibal, Missouri.
