It appears that a dispute arose between them in regard to the ownership of certain lands upon which Criss was building a fence, a quarrel ensured, which resulted in Conde’s striking Criss on the head with a club, injuring him severely. It is reported to-day (Monday) that Criss died from the effects of the blow. FIRE The cry of fire on last Sunday evening caused not a little alarm among many who perhaps were not thinking of their danger from this devouring element. It was fortunately, however, of short duration this time, having only burned the window curtain and sash in the house of Mr. Mayhugh, before it was extinguished. Would it not be advisable for the citizens of Pomeroy to be better prepared for the like occurrence in the future? ATTACHMENT [abstracted] James Wright, plaintiff vs Andrew L. Stansbury defendant. H.
