To the Honorable court of Common Pleas: The petition of GOTTLIEB KAPTIENA respectfully shows: First. My full name is GOTTLIEB KAPIENA Second. My place of residence is number 108 Spring Avenue street, town of Pomeroy, state of Ohio. Third. My occupation is coal miner Fourth. I was born on the 8th day of September, anno Domini 1868, at Ottelsburg, East Prussia, Germany. Fifth. I emigrated to the United States from Antwerp, Belgium, on or about the 26th day of February, anno Domini 1904, and arrived at the port of Philladelphia, Pennsylvania , in the United States, on the vessel "Belgeland" Red Star Line. Sixth. I declared my intention to become a citizen of the United States on the 10th day November, anno Domini 1919 at Pomeroy, in the Common Pleas court of Migs County, Ohio. Seventh. I am not married. My wifes name is Emma Kapteina, she was born in Saxony, Germany , and now resides at Pomeroy. I have 7 children, and the name, date, and place of birth of each said children is as follows. 1. Freda: December 12, 1895 Germany 2. Emil: May 29, 1897 Germany 3. Hugo: August 12, 1901 Germany 4. Louise: October 15, 1902 Germany 5. Charles: August 3, 1905 West Virginia 6. Henry: July 9, 1909 West Virginia 7. Frank: January 26, 1915 West Virginia Eighth. I am not a disbeliever in or opposed to organized government or a member of or affiliated with any organization or body of persons teaching disbelief in organized government. I am not a polygamist nor a believer in the practice of polygamy. I am attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and it is my intention to become a citizen of the United States and to renounce absolutely and forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, and particularly to German Empire, of which, at this time I am a citizen/subject, and it is my intention to reside permanently in the United States. Ninth. I am able to speak the English language. Tenth. I have resided continuously in the United States of America for a term of five years at least immediately preceding the date of this petition, to wit, since the 12th day of March, anno Domini 1904 and in the state of Ohio for one year at least next preceding the date of this petition, to wit, since the 15th day of July, anno Domini 1919. Eleventh. I have heretofore made petition for citizenship to Circuit Court, Fayette County, Fayetteville W.Va. One of my witnesses proved to be an alien Englishman at the time of the hearing.
