Feb. 19--The strongest oil well ever struck in Mercer County was drilled in Thursday on the Jacob DIDRICK farm, 5 miles north of this city. The oil began to flow when the drill was about 50 feet in the sand and it is estimated that 2,000 barrels flowed upon the ground. Pits were dug around the well, thus saving a large portion of the oil. When the well was controlled and capped, it filled a tank at the rate of 2 barrels per minute. LUMONION Brothers, of Mendon, O. Hold the lease, together with 500 other acres in the vicinity and it is reported refused $10,000.00 for their holdings. The offer was made by the Standard Oil Co. Conservative estimates place the well at 700 barrels a day. This opens a new territory.
