YATES, DECEASED [Note: many of these were on small pieces of paper; all were handwritten, original documents; it appears that no one has gone through the folder since the documents were originally recorded; at some point, there was a fire at the Courthouse, although current employees knew nothing of it; the folders' edges were sooty, although the pages inside were clean, evidence of past smoke damage] Accounting: Medical bills last sickness: $17.00 owed to Lost Creek Church "a subscription for finsing [sic] Churchyard and house" $3.00 for making coffin and appraising property $6.00 for "crying the sale of the prop party [sic] $1.00 for 2 days service as appraiser of property $2.00 for [number smeared] days service as Clerk $1.50 for letters testamentary & Recording Inventory of estate $6.50 Total estate $1457.05 less debts pd. by executors # 47.99 1/2# amount in executors hands $1409.05 1/2 (dated 12 Sept 1831) ----------------------------------------------- on April 19 1838, Mary Yates signed her mark to a receipt for $1409.05 1/2 showing she received from Thomas Yates, executor of Jonathan L. Yates, the balance in their hands after the settlement of the estate; she discharges Thomas Yates from all further liability to her "by reasons of any amts. which he may have recd.of said Estate"
