DEMOCRAT: Alf. HOWARD, the great Violinist, gave one of his pleasant entertainments last Saturday, to an appreciative audience. ---- He is surely the master of the "King of musical instruments," and withal a fine fellow. Newton J. HARTER was buried July 29, with the Odd Fellows in full attendance. Mr. H. was one of our best and most public spirited citizens, and his loss will long be felt. Professor HAMILTON has been favoring our Horse loving citizens with illustrations of his proficiency in his art. No one better understands his business than the Professor. Last Wednesday night another attempt was made to enter the vault of the National Bank. While the crowd who detected the burgler were awaiting the arrival of the Bank Teller, (whose presence alone would have made an arrest official) the robber escaped. There is a plenty of scandal afloat here, but as it would interest none but the ladies, I will save the items for Mm. Demorest's Monthly or the New York Mercury, for which last one of our talented young citizens contributes in the poetry line.
