He was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Sandy Hook, Ky., to the late Harlan and Ibby Skaggs Adkins. He married Jean E. Silvers Aug. 3, 1985, in Covington; and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Debra and Robert Baker of Tipp City; three sons, Chuck Adkins of Wapakoneta, Jack Adkins of Troy and Doug Adkins of Florida; two stepchildren, Kathy and her husband Danny Davidson of Troy and J. Scott Sales of Fresno, Calif.; 11 grandchildren 15 great- grandchildren; two great-great¬grandchildren; one brother, Acie Adkins of Florida; and one sister, Jaley Maggert of Grayson, Ky. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Mr. Adkins was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church of Piqua, he was a past member of the Piqua Elks Lodge. He retired from Jackson Tube manufacturing company in 1992, where he worked in the maintenance department. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, Piqua, with the Rev. Jay Roberts officiating.
