Ruth was born May 14, 1929, in Shelby County, the daughter of the late John H. and Mary A. (Oldham) Shively. She married her husband of 58 years, Lester (Blackie) Black, on Oct. 28, 1949, and he survives in Piqua. She also is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Connie Black and Greg and Pamela Black, all of Piqua; five grandchildren, Nic (Cassie) Black of Kettering, Kris (Becky) I Black, Dustin (Kyla) Black, Kurtis Black and Holly Black, all of Piqua; one great-grandson, Wyatt Black of Piqua; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Dolores Shively of Fletcher; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Don Langdon of Sidney, Joyce and Doug Miller of Troy and Jane and Roger Mowrer of Piqua; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bonnie, and sister and brother-in-law, Helen and John Taylor. Ruth attended the Troy Church of the Brethren. A 1948 graduate of Vandalia- Butler High School, Ruth went to Richard Weston School of Cosmetology in Dayton where she earned a cosmetology license, and she opened her own beauty shop, Black Acres Beauty Salon. Later she attended Edison Community College where she earned her real estate license. She worked for Petit Realty and W. A. Shively Realty both of Piqua until she retired. Ruth was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, her grandchildren and her great- grandson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Suber-Shively Funeral Home, Fletcher, with the Rev. Sheila Shumaker of the Troy Church of the Brethren presiding.
