The Piqua Daily Call-abstract
Wanda J. Bowers, the former Wanda Hawes, 88 ,passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 
2013. She was born June 21, 1924, to the late Alfred and Lockey McAlexander 
Hawes of the Lena-Conover community. 
She married David W. Bowers of Piqua in 1943, and he died in 1995. The two of 
them lived all their married life in their home on Snodgrass Road, which 
spanned 52 years. Wanda graduated from Lena Conover High School in 1942. 
She was the mother of four children, and three survive,  She also leaves 10 
grandchildren, 22 great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. 
She joined Lena Baptist Church in her early years. She had played the piano 
there, and helped with the kindergarten Sunday school class. After her 
marriage, she moved her membership to Fletcher United Methodist Church. There, 
she had sung in the choir, taught a Sunday school class, served on the 
nomination committee and the pastor-parish. She had produced and presented 
many mother-daughter banquet programs. She still attends church regularly. She 
was a member of Fletcher grange, where she served as Chaplain Lectures, and 
pianist. She also had been juvenile matron and she and her husband were youth 
directors. She had been P.T.A officer at Springcreek School. She was a member 
of the upper Springcreek Community Church. She was a happy lady and a busy 
one. She had been a 4-H adviser and had served on the County Committee. She 
had volunteered at the Scope and the Senior Connection meals, held at the old 
Piqua High School, for about 10 years. She was an amateur writer and had 
written poems for her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She 
always said, she had had a good life, and a happy one. 
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her oldest 
daughter, Linda J Galbreath and her husband, Fred Galbreath. 
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Suber-Shively 
Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with the Rev. Jack Chalk presiding. 
Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. 
Thursday in the funeral home.
