Stanley Duer, 77, of Fletcher, passed away at 2:05 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, in Spring-Meade Nursing Home, Tipp City. He was born Feb. 26, 1929, in Miami County, the son of the late Joseph C. and Dorothy A. (Butler) Duer. He married Janet O. Prince on Sept. 12, 1953, and she survives. Together they raised four children, three of whom survive, Wesley Duer of St. Paris, Kimberly Heintz of Covington and Krista Thompson of Troy. He was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren, Matthew and Brian Duer of Columbus, Angela (Mike) Marion of Covington, Tyler and Zachary Thompson of Troy and Brittney Thompson of Bowling Green, and was especially fond of his great- grandson, Corey Marion of Covington. Mr. Duer was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kurtis; sister, Kathryn Ann; and brothers, George W. and Donald K. Duer. Mr. Duer loved his Lord and was a faithful member of the Lena Baptist Church where he served many years as a deacon and also sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Miami County Gideons International. He was a 1947 graduate of Piqua High School, a former 4-H adviser for the Brown Twp. Trailblazers 4-H Club, a former member of the Fletcher Lions Club and the Miami-Shelby Melody Men. He served his country from 1948-52 in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Steinaker. He was engaged in farming until the early 1980's when he became the owner and operator of Duer Trucking. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lena Baptist Church, 8050 N. Church St., Lena, with the Rev. Philip Schumm officiating. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher, with military honors by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.
