Dorothy V. Gibboney, 100, of Fletcher, passed away at 4 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 
2004, in Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
She was born on Dec. 14, 1903, in Bradford. She was the daughter of the late 
Isaiah V. and Mary E. (Burnham) Buck. She married Ernest  A. Gibboney on July 
5, 1924, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1989, after 65 years of 
marriage. She is survived by two daughters, Jean Ponchilla and Rita Gibboney, 
both of Fletcher; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Gloria Gibboney of 
Granville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-
grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in 
death by 10 brothers and sisters, and a son-in-law, Paul Ponchilla.
Dorothy was a member of the Fletcher United Method-ist Church and she 
celebrated her 100th birthday there with her family and church friends. She 
was formerly active in the United Methodist Women. She also enjoyed playing 
euchre with her friends in Fletcher. Dorothy worked for a short time during 
the Great Depression at Atlas Underwear in Piqua. For most of her life, she 
was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing Barbie Doll clothes, making quilts for her 
grandchildren and telling stories of her past.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, in Suber-Shively 
Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher. Funeral services will follow the 
visitation at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Leland Brehm and the 
Rev. Bonita Wood of the Fletcher United Methodist Church presiding. Burial 
will be in Fletcher Cemetery
