Ralph was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Covington, to the late Martin Luther Hecker and Edith Zereda (Debra) Hecker-Thomas. He graduated in 1946 from the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home in Xenia. Ralph made a career of serving his country starting in the Army Air Force and then retiring after more than 30 years from the U.S. Air Force. He was a combat veteran of both Korea and Vietnam. Ralph, after retiring from the military, was employed for 16 years at Hobart Brothers in Troy. He was a farmer in Newberry Township and enjoyed working the land and appreciated the challenges and opportunities that farming brought his way. Ralph was fond of wintering in Florida but would get anxious to get back home for spring planting season. Ralph, as busy as he was, always had time for his nephews and nieces; he loved them as his own. Uncle Ralph will be missed and remembered by his nieces and nephews: Cherrie Plummer of Centerville; Cindy (Hecker) and Alan Stacker of Troy; Agnes (Hecker) and Stanley Parlette of New Bremen; Linda Hecker of Troy; Vickie Thomas of Gilbert, Ariz.; Patty (Thomas) and Marvin Applegate of West Carrolton; Karen (Thomas) and Jay Turner of Brookville; Deborah (Thomas) and Jim Swallow of Covington; Denise (Thomas) Jacquemin of Fletcher; Dorothy (Thomas) Elliot of Piqua; Teresa Supinger and Carl and Judith Plummer of Centerville; Michael Plummer of Centerville; Terry and Wilma Hecker of Piqua; Bill and Kathy Hecker of Piqua; James and Kathy Thomas of Hillard; John Thomas of Mesa, Ariz.; Jack and Linda Thomas of Covington; Steven and Linda Thomas of Troy; William Supinger Jr., Timothy Allen Supinger and Larry Lee Lawson. He also was survived by many great-nieces and nephews; sisters, Lois (Hecker) Plummer of Centerville and Judith Thomas Supinger; and brothers, Robert Thomas of Union and James Thomas of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mildred Hecker, Betty (Hecker) Reeves, Barbara (Thomas) Lawson and Norma Jean Thomas; brothers, Richard Hecker, Jack Hecker and Orville Thomas; nephews, Danny Hecker, Michael Reeve and Gary Reeve; and nieces, Nancy (Reeve) Kingery and Janet Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Pearson-Jackson Funeral Home, 10 South High St., Covington, (937) 473-2271 with the Rev. Lynn Labs officiating. Interment will follow in the Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher, with Military Honors given by the Tri-Village Honor Guard.
