Howell, 77, of Covington, passed away unexpectedly in his residence on May 23, 2009. Mr. Howell was born Sept. 10,1931, in Miami County, the son of the late Fred and Edna (Heintz) Howell. He married Constance "Connie" Phillis on March 20, 1954 and she preceded him in death April 17, 2009. Mr. Howell is survived by two children, Debby (Rick) Hohne of Kettering and Jay (Vickie) Howell of Troy; five grandchildren: James (Anne) Hohne of Hawaii, Joel Hohne of Kettering and Sara Howell, Samantha Howell and Andy Howell all of Troy; four great-grandchildren: Talen, Katie, Billy and Christopher, a sister, Doris Zerkle of Lena and his mother-in-law, Mary Ellen (Bair) Phillis of Tipp City. A 1949 graduate of Fletcher-Conover High School, Mr. Howell went on to serve his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army. Upon his return home he became a mechanic. He co-owned Tri-County Equipment near Fletcher for 20 years, then went to work for the Ohio Department of Transportation, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders, the Indian Creek Rifle Club, and the NRA. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with Pastor Ron Barber of the Troy Church of the Nazarene officiating.
