He was born June 5, 1916, in Sidney, the son of the late William Clyde and Learna (Cummins) Jenkins. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Miriam Pauline Slack; a sister, Pauline Riesenbeck; and his first wife, Tiny, and their daughter, Marlene Jenkins Rouse. He is survived by his only son, Thomas Eugene Jenkins and daughter-in-law, Joyce; three grandchildren: Jon (Robin) Jenkins, of West Milton, Amy (Kent) Booherof Pleasant Hill and Jason (Kelly) Jenkins of Palm Springs, Calif.; eight great-grandchildren, Nathanael and Gabrielle Jenkins, Kellen, Kyler, Kale and Keeley Booher and Emily and Daniel Jenkins. Also surviving are four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren from his first marriage; two brothers-in-law, Ward and Maynard Slack; a sister-in-law, Elinor Slack and many nieces and nephews. He retired from Union Fork and Hoe (formerly the Wood Shovel and Tool Co. of Piqua) after nearly 50 years as a shop foreman. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army and receiving the Purple Heart in the Battle of the Bulge. He was an avid fisherman and gardener, and in his earlier years enjoyed hunting and trapping. He loved to help others and to recall his many experiences in the war. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher. Funeral services will be held at 1 1 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with his grandson, Pastor Jon Jenkins of Highland Church, West Milton, presiding. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery.
