Maggert, 69, of Fletcher, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009, in her residence. She was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Shelby County, near Lockington, a daughter of the late Frank and Ersta (Shipley) Jess. She married Francis P. (Sonny) Maggert on Aug. 3, 1984, and he survives in Fletcher. Vera ' also is survived by three sons, Dave (Jill) Selsor, Darrin Selsor and Cory Selsor, all of Piqua; and two stepsons, Randy (Jeanne) Maggert of Piqua and Tim (Becky) Maggert of Tipp City. She was a loving grandmother to five grandchildren: Shea and Cole Selsor of Piqua, Cameron Barton and Clay Selsor of Piqua and Matt Littlejohn of Tipp City; and one great-grandson, Jeffrey Littlejohn of Tipp City. Additional survivors include five siblings, Betty Patty of Bradford, Lowell (Carolyn) Jess of Pleasant Hill, Mary (William) Wilson of Piqua, Carolyn (Tim) Ferree of Piqua and Charles "Mike" (Carolyn) Jess of Marshfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Donald, George, Warren, Norris "Dale," John and Wilbert Jess and a sister, Glenna "Tillie" Jones. Vera was a 1957 graduate of Houston High School. She attended the Alcony Grace Church in Alcony. She was formerly employed by Wood Shovel and Miami Industries of Piqua. Vera was a former member of the Piqua Community Chorus and the YWCA Young Mothers Club. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the American Quilters Society. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with Pastor Robert Linkous officiating. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery.
