Motter, 79, of 1567 Garbry Road, Piqua, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in the Heartland of Piqua Nursing Home. He was born in Fletcher on May 12, 1925, to the late James and Hazel Rector Motter. He married June Shoemaker on June 21, 1947, in Piqua, and she survives. Other survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Gerald Maul of Dayton, Lou and Phil McQueen of Troy, and Sandy and Ed Adamson of East Liverpool; five grandchildren; a brother, James Motter Jr. of Piqua; and a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Ed Martin of Dayton. Mr. Motter attended Piqua City Schools and then served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired in 1983 as a carpenter for commercial construction. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where he served three terms as a Trustee, and the VFW Post No. 4874. He volunteered at the former Piqua Memorial Medical Center and served on the Miami County Recovery Council Board of Directors. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Jamieson and Yannucci Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, where full military honors will be provided by the Piqua Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
