Putnam, 83, of Conover, died Monday, March 1, 2004, in Venice, Fla. He was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Conover, the son of the late Lee and Marvel (Caven) Putnam. A stepmother, Vera Carter Putnam of Conover, survives him. Additional survivors include his wife, Kathryn Wiseman Putnam, to whome he was married Feb. 21,1947; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Jeanie Putnam of Conover; one daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Douglas Haas of Troy; one granddaughter and her husband, Jodi and Travis Markwood of Rushville; one grandson and his wife, Jay and Becky Putnam of Conover; one stepgranddaughter and her husband, Tammy and Bruce Watson of Cincinnati; one stepgrandson Scott Haas of Canton; and two stepgreat- grandsons, Cole and Luke Watson. He also is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Charles Borror of Fletcher; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Willard and Kathleen Putnam of Fletcher, David and Windley Putnam of Worthington and Duane and Elizabeth Putnam of Washington, D.C.; a sister-in-law, Mildred Putnam of St. Paris; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Putnam. Mr. Putnam was a life long member of Greenview United Church of Christ in Plattsville. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Commander. He was engaged in farming and he retired from the U. S. Department of Agriculture as the County Executive Director of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) of Shelby County. He was a member of various organizations, including Social Lodge 217 Free and Accepted Masons, Lena, Antioch Shrine of Dayton, Ambassador Jesters, Keith Cretors American Legion Post 148 of St. Paris, Life Member of Philip Grieser Post 7645 Veterans of Foreign Wars, St. Paris, a former member of the Shelby County AAA Motor Club Board of Directors; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and a former Fairlawn Board of Education member. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher.
