She was born June 29, 1915, the daughter of the late R. Perley and Mary (Wiseman) Carter in Columbus. She married Lee Putnam on Oct. 25, 1941. He preceded her in death March 1, 1958. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David Allen and Windley Putnam of Worthington and Duane Carter and Elizabeth Shepard Putnam of Washington, D.C.; three grandsons, Brian S. (Teresa) Putnam of Dublin, Bradley A. (Lynda) Putnam of Delaware and Alexander S. Putnam of Washington, D.C.; and three great¬grandchildren, Alexandra, Conner and Madison Putnam of Dublin; a sister-in-law, Helen Carter of Columbus; two nieces; and two nephews. She also is survived by her stepfamily, stepson and daughter-in-law, Willard and Kathleen Putnam of Fletcher; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Norma Lee and Chuck Borror; two stepdaughters-in-law, Mildred Putnam of St. Paris and Kathryn Putnam of Conover; and seven step-grandchildren, Marilyn Putnam Ingle, Eric Putnam, Keith Putnam, Scott Borror, Kristen Putnam Haas, Cheryl Borror Lavin, and Diane Putnam Barbee; 15 step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great- grandchildren; and two step-great-great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by stepsons, Richard and Donald Putnam; step-grandchildren, Charlotte Putnam and Michael Borror; and a brother, Harold Carter, MD. Vera graduated from West High School, Columbus, in 1934 and from The Ohio State University in 1939. She was a teacher for 22 years, teaching in Rosewood, Champaign County schools, Miami County schools and Miami East School District. She was a member of the St. Paris United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Past Matron of formerly Fidelity Chapter Ohio Easter Star, now an affiliate of Troy Chapter 265. She was a volunteer at Upper Valley Medical Center for many years, a member of the Piqua YWCA, former member of the Urbana Senior Citizens for many years, and the Leisure Club of Piqua. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the St. Paris United Methodist Church, 208 W. Walnut St., St. Paris. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher.
