Putnam, age 82 of Fletcher passed away in his residence Aug. 13, 2005, at 1:10 p.m. He was born in Champaign County Aug. 28, 1922, the son of the late Lee and Marvel (Caven) Putnam. He married Lois Kathleen Kiser June 22, 1943, and she survives. He also is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn Kay and Butch Ingle of Fletcher and Diane Lynne and Tom Barbee of Covington; four grandchildren, Rodney Ingle of Fletcher, Randy (Wendy) Ingle of Fletcher, Bryan Barbee of Covington and Bradley Barbee of Seattle Wash.; four great- grandchildren, Devon Shaneyfelt of Covington, Brock Smith of Fletcher and Cody and Brayden Ingle of Fletcher; one sister and brother-in-law, Norma Lee and Charles Borror of Fletcher; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David A. and Windley Putnam of Worthington and Duane C. and Elizabeth Putnam of Washington, D.C.; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Putnam of St. Paris and Kathryn Putnam of Conover. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Charlotte L. Putnam; brothers, Richard C. and Donald S. Putnam; and step-mother, Vera V. Carter Putnam. Willard was a 1940 graduate of Lena-Conover High School and a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 16, 1942 until Dec. 9, 1945 as a member of Signal Company, 84th Infantry Division and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the French Jubilee Medal 2002. He retired from Hobart Brothers after 45 years of service. Willard was a 50- year member of the Lena Social Lodge 21 7 Free and Accepted Masons and a past Worshipful Master. He belonged to Troy Chapter 256 Order of the Eastern Star and was a 50-year member and Past Worthy Patron of the former Fidelity Chapter Ohio Eastern Star, which is now an affiliate of the Troy Chapter 256. He was a member of the Antioch Shriners of Dayton, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton and the Hobart Brothers Milestone Club. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with the Rev. Leland Brehm and the Rev. Bonita Wood, both of the Fletcher United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery with military graveside services performed by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad of Miami County.
