George R. Reid, 91 of Kettering, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 
2005, at Heartland of Piqua.
He was born Aug. 9, 1914, in Brown Township, the son of the late Walter C. 
Reid and Mertie Pence. He married Pauline Neumeier on Nov. 24, 1935, and she 
survives in Piqua. He also is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Joan 
and Paul Beck of Fletcher; three grandchildren, Paula (Chris) Schmiesing of 
Piqua, Karl Beck of Troy and Dr. Mary Beck of Chicago; three great-
grandchildren, Jack, Ben and Sam Schmiesing of Piqua; sister Josephine Motter 
of Troy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jim and Sue Casteele of Troy; and 
four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.
George graduated from Lena Conover High School in 1932 and from Miami Jacobs 
College in Dayton, in 1935. In 1947, George became self employed as a cabinet 
maker and his final order was taken in April 2005. He was a member of the 
Western Ohio Woodworkers Club for 19 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Suber-Shively Funeral 
Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with the Rev. James Christy of Greene Street 
United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery.
