"Russ" Reid, 78, of 310 N. Sunset Drive, Piqua, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at his residence. He was born July 23, 1931, in Conover, to the late Emmett and Kathryn (Simmons) Reid. He married Marlene E. Pour on Oct. 3, 1953, in Troy; and she survives. Other survivors include a son, Bret (Kimberly) Reid of Piqua; grandchildren, Lindsay Reid and Alan (Alison) Reid; a great-granddaughter, Stella Reid; and two brothers, Marvin (Suzanne) Reid of Piqua and Gary (Debbie) Reid of Fletcher. Mr. Reid graduated Brown Twp. High School of Conover in 1949, and furthered his education in the field of mechanics. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a master mechanic and co-owner of Tri-County Implement Co. near Fletcher for 24 years until 1986, when he began working with the city of Piqua Municipal Power System. He was a member of St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church, Indian Creek Rifle Club, National Rifle Association, Shelby County Deer Hunters Club, Miami Valley Bass Masters, Miami County Antique Power Assoc., Miami County Steam Threshers Association, Tri-State Gas Engine & Tractor Association, Buckeye Allis Club, Florida Flywheelers, Good Neighbors Farm Bureau Council, Piqua Friends Council of the Johnston Farm, Shelby County Antique Power Association and the Steam Engine Association of Portland, Ind. He was instrumental in the development of the diesel mechanics program at the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School, enjoyed his family, square dancing with the Happy Squares, restoring antique tractors, fishing, and being a 4-H adviser. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church, Covington with the Rev. Fr. James L. Simons as the Celebrant.
