Sipe, 81, of Fletcher, passed away at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, in her residence. She was born on Sept. 25, 1927, in Piqua, a daughter of the late Ray and Gladys (Kiser) Swank. She married C. Frank Sipe on Sept. 11, 1948, and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1995. A sister, Betty Wiley, also preceded her in death. Vera is survived by her four children, Christine Sipe, Shary (Walt) Weldy and C. David Sipe, all of Fletcher and Joy Schaefer of Troy. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, Amber Weldy, Marc (Krista) Weldy, Tara (Ben) Lilly, Erin (Adam) Eberwein, Kendal, Adam and Kaylee Schaefer; and eight great-grandchildren, Brice Helman, Colton, Kaden and Gunner Weldy, Brooklyn and Jordyn Lilly, and Jackson and Titus Eberwein. Two brothers, Frank Swank of Dayton and Allen Swank of Troy also survive. Vera was a 1946 graduate of Brown Twp. School. She formerly worked for Orr Felt in Piqua, she hung wallpaper and she was a cook and manager of the Fletcher Restaurant where she was known for her pies. Vera won first place rosettes for five years straight at the Miami County Fair for her banana creme pie. She also loved softball and started the girls youth softball league at Miami East. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with the Rev. Russ Tichenor of the Fletcher United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in the Fletcher Cemetery.
