Watkins, 98, of Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney, passed away at 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010, in Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney. Roger was born on Dec. 26, 1911, in Champaign County, a son of the late Elmer and Jenny (Worthington) Watkins. He married Eileen Campbell on Dec. 23, 1933 and she survives in Sidney. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Mahan and Blanche Verdier Allen; and a brother, Robert Watkins. He also is survived by three daughters, Joyce (Richard) Peters of Sidney, Janice (Bill) Maxson of Conover and Irma (Allan) Greenwood of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. Roger was a 1929 graduate of Rosewood High School, a farmer all of his life, and a member of the GreenView United Church of Christ, Sidney, where he served as a moderator of the Southwest Association of the UCC and the Ohio Conference. He was a lifetime member of the Grange, where he was a former deputy of the Shelby County Granges. He also was a past president of the Shelby County Farm Bureau and sang with the barbershop quartet, The Clodhoppers. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, in the GreenView United Church of Christ, 3041 Leatherwood Creek Road, Sidney, with Pastor Darren Harvey presiding.
