He was born on Nov. 28, 1916 in Ophir, Ky., the son of late John and Margaret (Cantrell) Young. He married Mary "Nannie" Smith on Dec. 10,1938 and she preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 2003. Melvin is survived by a daughter, Susan Bolin of Piqua, and three sons and daughters-in-law, James K. (Cheryl) Young of Conover, Frank (Wava) Young of Sidney and James W. (Pamela) Young of Sidney. He also has 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, a daughter, Jean Dinkins, three brothers and six sisters preceded Melvin in death. Melvin retired in 1979 from Oberer Construction, Dayton. He was also a farmer. He was a member of Elm Tree Baptist Church, St. Paris, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was also a member of Local No. 1410 Pipefitters of America, Dayton. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, with Pastor Bill Cantrell presiding. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher.
