Where do I go to find the location? Donna --------------------- Donna, Am sending a copy to the list for others who may have the same question. On the index for your ancestor there should be the name of a meridian, (ie First Principle Meridian, US Military, Endicott's Line, etc.) There may be a base line listed (Muskingum River Base, Ohio River Base,Great Miami River Base, etc.) Locating the property is much like using a map having grid coordinates, but you must know how sections are numbered and sized in your area. With one or both of those (meridian and base line) and the section, township, and range information you can locate the property. You can learn about this from a book called the "Township Atlas of the United States". It lists the townships for all counties for all states; has maps with principle meridians and base lines and has excellent detailed instructions on locating property. Most Genealogical Societies should have it in their library. There are other books as well and may be a web site. Don't know about a web site, have done some surveying so have never looked. Ohio is a difficult place to work with survey data, too bad you aren't looking farther west. But be glad you aren't looking east of Ohio, That's a real nightmare.
