The hauling was chiefly done in about two weeks altho the distance was from 9 to 11 or 12 miles. All things now appeared to be as nearly ready as possible and on the 4th of March The Keel boat and one flat boat set sail for the mouth of Wabash. They stopped at Jeffersonvile, unloaded and set up the waggons (the horses having gone by land) so that on the 9th three waggons with seven families started from Jeffersonville for Busro, a distance of 120 miles, where they arrived safe on the 16th - 26th Elder Archbald MEACHAM and James HODGE arrived on the Big Prarie at Busro. 1812 - March 3rd -- The sawmil finished and started to work. The schoolhouse was now on hands and was finished abut the first of May and on the 3d Thadeous JENKINS departed this life - aged 12 or 13 years - having a few weeks previous got on one of his knees badly hurt by being struck against a tree when riding on a horse - he took cold, his thigh healed - was opened - and after a long tour of sore sufferings it cost him his life - In June - The Fever began to invade the Society in different quarters and some began to get verry sick .... The fever went on with increasing violence till numbers were brought under sore and unusual sufferings - and some even unto death -- July 16th. Joseph WORTHINGTON Departed this life in the 49th year of his age - leaving Betsy and six children among believers July 28th - Pheby SPARKS Departed this life - a single woman - age not known exactly but must have been something near 30 - August 1st - William GALLAGHER Departed this life in the 63d year of his age - leaving Rebecca and eight children among the believers August 12th William BRAZELTON Departed this life in the 35 year of his age - leaving Rebecca and two children among believers. August 28th David EDIC Departed this life. 1814 September 18th - Ruth Darrow - a daughter of David Darrow - died. She was born Nov. 29th, 1780; arrived at Union Villiage May 31, 1806, and died at West Union. 1820 Month/Day unknown: The come a young man to West Union by the name of William PORTER - he was sick when he stoped - so he opened his mind and - Left the world in peace - Age unknown - October 11th - Isabella GILL Departed this life - aged about 51 years. 1821 - Early in the Spring: The washing Mill was built - along about this time - and the first motion it made it broke the two fore fingers of Peggy STEWART's left hand - and finally rendered them useless. After suffering greatly for seven or eight days the forefinger was cut off close to the hand, and the middle one grew crooked and was never of any use to her. Also the frameing timber for the house was got and the carpenter work carried on by James MEAD. July 6th - James JINKINS Departed this life - aged nearly 19. October 23d. Aged, William Knox Departed this life, haveing been sick of a kind of cholic. five or six days - Aged near 60 years -- November 18th - Rebecca BOYLS - Departed this life - Her age is not accurately known - but according to the account of some of her children she must have been 60 or upwards December 22nd. William KNOX Junr Departed this life in the 31st year of his age - haveing suffered greatly of the Inflamatory sore throat accompanied with rageing fever. 1822 - August 3d. William DOUGLAS Departed this life. Aged 57 years. He was born in Iarland June 1765 and died on the Big Prairy at Busro of the Dropsy - he was the last one of the three first Trustees and as cleaver a soul as ever blood warmed - December 26th. William JAMES Departed this life, being just 46 years and 4 days old - Father of nine children, six of shome he left with Betsy among the believers at West Union. 1823 - February 8th. Chester FOWLER Departed this life. He was a young believer and had been confined to the room and bed about one year with Pulmonary Consumption before he died - his age is not accurately known, but supposed to be something about 22 or 24. 1827 - January 2nd. Anny HANDCOCK Departed this life, Aged about 58 - having been afflicted less or more for about five years with the Breast complaint - OTHER NOTES: Benjamin Seth YOUNGS - one of the oringan triumvirate that introduce Shakerism in the West, was born Sept 17, 1774; became first in the Ministry at South Union, September 25, 1811 and so continued until he was ordered to Watervleit, N.Y. in 1835. He died there in 1855. Elder Solomon KING died in Mount Lebanon, N. Y. He was born January 22, 1760; arrived at Union Village June 29, 1805, and was second in the Ministry under David DARROW until 1825, when he became acting first; left Union Village in 1835. George LEGIER, born Nov. 1, 1767; joined Shakers in 1805, and died May 5, 1850, farm Deacon at Busro Samuel McCLELLAND - probably united at Union Village, and on the final abandonment of West Union, he was transfered to South Union, and there remained until 1839, when he left, married and then removed to Indiana. Archibald MEACHAM continued first in the Ministry during the existence of the Society. He was born Jan. 12, 1774 and died in May, 1844 Saloma DENNIS,econd in the Ministry, was born April 3, 1783; united with the Believers in 1805, and died January 9, 1853. Her right name was Edith. James HODGE, born June 9, 1781, joined Believers Dec 6, 1807 and died March 24, 1865. Peggy KNOX (daughter of John Knox and Esther Luckey Knox) was born February 18, 1789; converted in 1805, and died May 31, 1855 ==== OH-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ====
