He was born July 10, 1814 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio His parents were probley involved with the Dunkard Church as was many Leatherman's who originally came from Germany. His Obit which is typed below shows he moved to Orange County, IN when he was four. I don't have access to a 1810 or earlier Dayton Census The 1830 Orange County, Census I found a Christian and John Leatherman who are probley brothers. I have all of Christian's children and due to the birth dates of Christian's children I have ruled him out as Christian's father. John is a possiblity but I have no proof. Christian and John's father is Peter LEATHERMAN b. November 15, 1757 in Wolfsville, Frederick, MD and married Mary Anna Schwigart. I'm sure I have the right family but who is Christian Peter's parent's? Obit of Christian Peter Leatherman copied from an old original column that states Farina, IL at the top and no date. I checked with Effingham County and Fayette County, IL and was unable to locate a death certificate. I don't have all the names of Christian's children. Christian Peter Leatherman married Elizabeth KRUTSINGER in Orange County, IN on October 20, 1836. Elizabeth was b. December 07, 1821 in Orange Co., and died April 15, 1904 in Golden City, Barton Co, MO. CHRISTIAN PETER LEATHERMAN was born at Dayton, Ohio, July 10, 1814. When he was four years of age his parents removed to Orange county, Indiana, where on Oct. 20, 1936, he married Elizabeth Krutsinger, with whom he traveled life's journey for a period of sixty-one years, four months and twenty-eight days. Twelve children -- seven sons and five daughters--blest this union, three of whom, two boys and one girl, died in infancy. One daughter, aged twelve, died in 1860, since which, thirty-eight years ago, there has been no death in the immediate family until now. Mr. Leatherman professed faith in Christ in 1857, under the pastorate of Rev. Hiram Warner in Gentry County, MO., and united with the Christian church, and for forty-one years in sickness, in health and in all the recessitudes of life he beautifuly exemplified the eminent practicability of the religeon of out Lord Jesus Christ. All through his illness, which con tinued through a period of eight months, and during wich time he was confined to his room and most of the time to his bed; he was patient and wholy resigned to the will of God and when the end came, on March 18th, 1898, he passed triumphantly to his reward, at the ripe age of 83 years, 8 months, 8 days. Seven of eight children were present, [the] oldest of whom is past sixty [years] old, and the youngest thi [.......] The bereaved widow on [.........] her husband's death was 70 [years] [...] months and 11 days old. The gregate age of his eight children on that day was 383 years, 7 months and 1 day. The average age of the eight children was 47 years, 11 months and 12 days, including the parents it was 54 years, 4 months and 9 days. Thus the whole family have in aggregate lived a period of time equal in duration to about five and one-half centuries. Two of the girls and three of the boys reside in Illinois, one girl andone boy in Missouri, and one boy in Kansas. The funeral services were conducted by Elder Wm. T. Gordon from the Christian church at Edgewood, Ill., and the reamins interred in the Edgewood cemetery on Sunday, March 20th, 1898. Wonder why the emphasis on the years, months and days?
